Here is a short list of my powerlifting career
-Member of the 1000 lbs. Squat, 800lbs. Bench, and 800 lbs. Deadlift Club
-Trained at both Westside Barbell, Lexen Xtreme Barbell alongside some of the greatest lifters in the world.
-Competed for 9 years in all specialties from Raw, Single Ply, and Multi-Ply
-Totaled Elite in 5 weight classes (220,242,275,308, and SHW)
-Totaled 2,204 lbs. raw ranking 16th All-Time regardless of weight. One of 19 men ever to total over 2,200 lbs. raw.
-Totaled 2,530 lbs. Multi-Ply
What does that mean? All of that knowledge and training experience has come together in The Cube Method. I wish I had a program like this when I coming up in powerlifting. The cube work out is worth 10 weeks of your time.
Raw and honest approach to the instruction in this book. Easy reading, simple but effective training method. No rocket science here. It works. Highly recommend.
Been lifting for 15 years. Was looking to refine techniques and incorporate different training methods. Book includes several great ways to mix up routines. Places some emphasis on recovery. Includes a lot of accessory exercise ideas to help strengthen primary lifts without fatiguing the groups and burning out. Realize that a lot of these guys train in gear, "supplement" heavily, and maybe don't look at blowing out a knee or tearing a pec the same way we do. Regardless, great ideas, information, techniques and concepts for everyone from the beginner and average joe to the experienced.
The book was an easy read but, and no disrespect, it could have been aided greatly by proofreaders and editors to clean it up.
Material was solid but the plan wasn't laid out as directly or as clearly as Wendlers 5/3/1 for example.
But it's simplicity has me convinced and I'll be putting together a modified version to give a shot.
Ive always wondered and been searching as to why strength gains had stopped from when I was a young man until the "fitness" revolution happened in the mid 90's. One routine was better than the next and so on. And I bought into all that shit. The strongest and biggest I ever got was when my friend and I were seriously injued at the same time at around 26 yrs old, he was in the NFL and I shattered my femur in a car wreck. We had an entire yr and a half to do nothing but lift heavy eat sleep and repeat, and we grew like oaks. We were already big boys both 6'5 low 300's but we started to look like we were strong. His arm cold was 21.5 and mine was 21. Your book takes me back to this time in my life, when we just picked up iron to purge the demons in our mind, that they were not going to defeat you and take you into a place in your head you dont wanna go by yourself. Brandon has taken the best of what he learned from Westside Barbell and numerous other trainers, partners and coaches and turned it into his own method. It combines the three powerlifting events with three types of lifting routines Maximal effort, Speed work, and Repetitions. His success is living proof that his Method yields results.
I compete in bench press and was starting to get stuck in my cycle for an upcoming competition in Las Vegas. After reading this and taking notes I have adapted a few ideas and seems to be working. His ideas are very basic and very rudiment. The Basics. Makes sense to me. His knowledge and having been with the best powerlifters he makes no bones about how he feels about the sport. If you are interested in hard work and progress, read this, take notes, think about it then try it. What do you have to loose? You might surprise yourself with a nice PR.
