An unexpected treasure! I'm always on the search for something new to read, mostly nonfiction or historical... this was a beautiful journey that I didn't see coming. It is historical, transported me in time to a place I'd never imagine on my own. It's courageous and loving, showing the strength of family and true love. It's adventurous and thrilling, keeping me involved and wanting to learn more.It was a nice, smooth read. I had to recall some French from high school and was impressed that I still remembered.
You cheer for the characters, you feel their struggles. I feel lucky to have found Tintamarre!

Excellent historical novel. It was especially interesting since I believe my family was "part of the story" and certainly one I didn't know about until recently! Thank you!
This was a fantastic book. My Mother and I read it as we like to read. Very fascinating. The story line keeps moving along where you can't put the book down. I learned so much about the history in the area and how difficult it was between the French and British in this part of Canada. I am excited to read Mr. French, I call him Frenchie's, book on his insight to Cuba. One day, I would love to get in this part of Canada to really understand and see things I read in Tintamarre. Hopefully one day after reading Mojito, I guess there is an update coming out, I will be able to venture to Cuba again. Frenchie, job well done, we will have to toast to a Cuban Cigar over your nice work. Thanks again!!!
I have received my copy of Tintamarre! a few weeks ago and after going through my tbr pile that included a love story, a sci-fi, and a classic, I went right into this one....and I loved it. If you enjoy historical fiction then you need this book in your life. This is the kind of book where you find yourself veering off to do a bit of research because you want more..want to know more about the events unfolding in the book. Taking place in the 1750's, in a small Acadian settlement, we follow an enduring family as they face the struggles and hardship and grit of a war against the English. Brian Lloyd French captures the heart of this defiant family and all it takes to keep them together through such a dark and trying time. It's a beautiful book...sad...gripping....so rich in historical facts placed within the authors story....leaving me anticipating more. Historical fiction at it's best!!
Poorly written and simple. Had difficulty finishing.
With ancestors from that time and place it took me back to that era .Brian Lloyd French brought the families to life in their struggles to make a new life.
Okay but way too long
Brian Lloyd French lifts the veil of confusion and ignorance surrounding the saga of the Acadians in Nova Scotia. From Father Le Leutre's war to the Grand Dérangement, he portrays a very real and well researched account of the events leading up to the expulsion, the plight of people fighting for survival. It's not a romance story, but it is a story of love. It is a work of fiction, but it is a very real account of the suffering, courage and determination of the Acadian people. A husband and father goaded into fighting by a priest who is more devoted to his king than to his Savior. A wife's struggle to survive and keep her family together, going through the rituals of daily life while caught in the struggle for power and land between two countries. Tintamarre. A shout of defiance that needs to be heard!
